Many may disregard the fact that love and affection are the most essential elements to guide the child than caning them. But a teacher has proved them wrong, who believe in canning. Meenakshikutty Amma the headmistress of Model Residential School, Painavu suffered all the pain to make here beloved students understand their mistake. This school teacher caned herself in order to make a boy confess his offence.
According to a report published in New Indian Express which says, on the Republic day, two students of the hostel at Model Residential School Painavu in Idukki district of Kerala, reported to headmistress Meenakshikutty, about the theft of the prize money these two students received for winning the state level sports event. This news sounded like a shock for the teacher, as the theft occurred in the hostel which pointed out the fact that it had been done by any of the students.
In order to find the boy who did this theft, Meenakshikutty called the assembly in which all the students were asked to close the eyes and the boy who did the theft shall come forward. But to surprise no one stood up, which hurt Mennakshikutty a lot.
She decided to punish herself as she thought she lacked something in her teachings and values which forced this incident to happen. Meenakshikutty Amma started caning on her in front of the assembly, but for no use as no one came up and confessed the crime. Later the teacher decided to go on hunger strike, students tried to convince her not to do so, but she was firm on her stand. At last the boy who did the theft stood forward and admitted his mistake and promised to not repeat it again in his life. Meenakshikutty also promised him not to reveal his name, the teacher never believed in the old saying that caning is the only way to impart truth and discipline in students. This was the victory of the teachers love and affection by which she moulded her students to the right path.
