Taj Mahal could very well be one of the wonders of the world but the tourists find the tranquil backwaters and the greenery of Kerala more appealing than the romantic marble edifice of Taj! According to the rankings of the fabled travel magazine, National Geographic traveler, Kerala shared the 23rd position with the Stonehenge in England and Petra in Jordan among the 133 world famous tourist destinations in the world. Surprisingly Taj is way below Kerala whereas, Rajasthan has a slightly higher rank.
The unique feature of backwaters and interlinking canals and rivers that run all through the length and breadth of this tiny state and the house boat cruises were cited as the most attractive features in Kerala. So, we can all take pride in being born in this beautiful state, blessed with some of the best nature can offer. Though it becomes our duty to protect and preserve these natural bounties for the future generations are we doing anything to protect these priceless features? Time for a serious introspection of our priorities!
